Social Networking Online: Social Networking and Teens (Social Networking Sites: Safety Tips for Teens)

Social networking sites are Internet websites that help people connect and keep in touch with their friends. They also enable people to meet others around the world and share their interests with them. According to a nationwide survey, social networking sites have become the most visited sites by teenagers.

Teens love these sites because they allow them to explore the world. They also enable teens to have access with friends anywhere in the country. Social networking sites serve as an area in which teens can create their own scrapbook or anything they plan doing. These sites give the youth some sense of power and control without the watchful eyes of their parents.

However, visiting these sites also has risks and disadvantages for the teens. Some suggested safety tips for teens when socialising online are as follows: First, teens must know how the different sites work before joining them. Next, they must be in control of all the information that they are posting. Teens must keep all the important facts to themselves. Also, teens should use screen names that do not say much about them. They must not post their photos, for they might be tampered with. Teens must avoid flirting, and must be cautious when a new friend asks to meet them in person. Finally, if they feel threatened by anyone or are made to feel uncomfortable, they must tell it to someone they trust and report it to the particular site, or even the police.
